Halloween night (the genie of the teapot)

Hey look! Can you recognize who is under the costumes? Yes, it's Kane Bamboo and Antonia Beagle dressed up and ready to go to a Halloween party! They are waiting for their friend to arrive soon...

Ike Mulberry arrived a bit late in his Aladdin costume!
-Sorry guys, I was looking for an oil lamp but I only found this old teapot in my grandma’s attic! Yikes, this place is creepy!
-Cool outfit Ike! That rusty teapot is alright, maybe a genie can live in there too, haha!
-Maybe if I rub it, it pops out, haha!

-Hey look! Some kind of blue smoke is coming out!! It can’t be…!

-….!!!!
-Hello master! I am the genie of the teapot!
-Wow, a real genie!!!

-Yes master, and I can grant you three wishes! What would they be?
-Wow! Cool! Could we each one have a wish?
-Certainly but they will last only until the day light!
-Ok guys! Let’s make our wishes…

Yay! My wish came true! I can actually fly on my broom!!

I can't believe I'm on a real magic carpet! Thank you genie!

Wow! I am a real ghost now! I will scare everyone at the party! Booooooo...!

The best Halloween night ever!!

The house is real but...small! it is actually a small 3d paper miniature of the house in the Pixar movie 'Up', ( u know the house with the balloons!). I made this some years ago (found it in a crafting site) and I thought why not use it in the photo ( I used the back side of it). The bright windows are photoshoped!
I made the pavement from foam board ( if you mean this) or else the path is a piece of a brown paper bag with some foliage on the sides. The autumn leaves are real yellow leaves which I broke into very small pieces! The trees are real little branches that I glued together with glue gun!
Here are two photos of the original set. As you can see most of the job with the lights ,colors and the sky in the final product was made with photoshop!

Believe it or not it was easier for me to make the broom, cape and hat for the witch! :!: I though the ghost would be easy but the white fabric was quite thick and it gave me a hard time to put it around the panda (clever me I tried to do it with one single piece of fabric without cuts)! I remade it three times so to look decent enough! :eh: It's all wrinkly at the back but it's only for the photos! The witch's red dress is from the "Spain, around the world" cat figure( the cape hides the yellow rose brooch on the dress)!

Once again the behind the scenes photos make it even more amazing. Excellent forced perspective with the little house. And the photoshop job is incredible, that must have taken a long time to do for each pic.

    1. Yes the small size of the house helped for the distance illusion. The sky effects were also very challenging! My favourite part is when I work on photo shop and try to bring the best out of the original photo. This may take 2-3 hours on each picture depending on the changes I want to apply but I can't actually feel the time pass while doing it! :!:

Sylvanko I enjoy photo editing very much - I use Lightroom. But I'd like to get into more creative things such as what you do. I am interested in greenscreens for backgrounds etc. Would you recommend photoshop? What about photoshop elements to start (as full photoshop is so expensive) or any other cheaper programs? Any good tutorials that you know of for the basic tools?

Love seeing the setup thankyou so much. Hope you don't mind me picking your brain. :)

I'd be interested in learning more about greenscreens and backgrounds as well. While taking photos over the weekend, I noticed far too much of my living room showing in the photos. Need to figure out some sort of backdrop for the next go.

I only have an old version of Photoshop (Cs3). I am not familiar with any newer versions or PS elements. I don't even use exactly the greenscreen technique. What I most use is the 'layers' function where you can simply erase all the parts of a picture you don't need and then merge different pictures together. I do it using the erase tool very carefully and in zoom mode around a certain item and then you can use it just like a sticker on every background photo you want. Also I play around with hue, lighting, sizes, opacities of images, adding various filters like blurring, sharpening, glowing, etc. You can find many tutorials on youtube if you type 'photoshop layers, masks'
There is an online site with many photoshop functions you can try: https://pixlr.com/editor/

That's just amazing, Sylvanako. I love it how you use the simplest things, like crushed up leaves and sticks for trees - just using what is ordinary and available, with extraordinary results.! Fantastic!
