At the Photographer's Studio

-Who is in this picture grandpa?
-The little lad with the lollipop is me and the others are my dad, my mom and my sister. I still remember that day at the photographer's studio, so many years ago!

-Oh it's hard to believe that little baby is you grandpa!

'... Although I was 4 years old I can remember visiting Mr Leo at his studio. We were all dressed in our Sunday clothes! Having a family photo taken was a special event back then!'

'It was my first time I saw a camera and I was a curious little boy! Mr Leo was very kind to explain me how it worked.'

'The photographer instructed us where to stand and how to to pose in front of the camera but there seemed to be a problem... I wouldn't stay still and it was impossible for him to take a decent shot!'

'So he had a method that seemed to work great with little ones like me... He gave me this delicious lollipop to suck on in order not to move!'

'And the trick worked just fine! I managed to stay in position for some seconds, enough for the photo to be taken the right way!'

'This photo is my favorite because it helped me keep one of my very first sweet childhood memories alive until now!'

  1. Hi, I just came across your blog and wonderful pictures. Such inspiration! I just started introducing my daughter to Calico Critters, and I think I might be more excited then her.

    1. Thank you very much Kristyn! I think that's how it started with me too! I bought sylvanians for my daughter but I got stuck! Good luck with your new hobby!

  2. Lovely pictures (as usual) and story, Sylvanako. Looking through them again I find myself smiling at the expression on Baby Babblebrook's face when Mr Leo presents him with the lollipop. It's almost as if the rest of the world has faded away as the lollipop has all his attention! Mr Leo taking the final photograph is a splendid pic.

Thanks a lot Emilie and Pigjes, I wanted to photograph the vintage camera from the camera and radio set, so I took the opportunity with the history challenge!

:o What beautiful pictures! Your choice of clothes for the characters really helps to enforce the period feel you've created with that lovely set. And using Nessie was inspired!

Your photos are gorgeus! They look like they're from official Sylvanian Families

Thank you Jackson. The clothes are borrowed from other sylvanians and tried to look like vintage. The little one is a Babblebrook baby dressed with the See Breeze baby's clothes although he's a boy, but I think it is a unisex outfit!

:loveit: This is too cute for words....and a lovely sepia family portrait - thank you, Sylvanako!
Many thanks Florence, I was inspired by my grandparents house, they used to have so many old photos on the walls and some family ones! This brought back memories of them!

I love your sweet story and wonderful pictures! :<3:
Congrats on having that vintage camera. It´s such an unique piece!
Mr.Leo´s photo studio looks amazing! I love the curtains, the background for the pictures and the framed pictures of other Sylvanians hanging from the wall.
The outfits you chose for the Babblebrooks are perfect. They look very smart posing for the family picture. Baby Cliff looks very cute and adorable in his navy outfit.
Mr. Leo is a resourceful man. That lollipop did the trick and I´m sure baby Cliff was delighted with such a treat. No wonder this photo brings him sweet memories from his childhood.
Thank you so much Cutata, I looked up for pictures of old photo studios in the Internet and I took ideas for Leo's studio! They used to have a lot of natural light and huge backdrops! It was great fun to set this up!

Wow! I love the story and the pics. It's very apt, that you have written a story about a photographer and photo shot!
    Brilliant!
Thank you Kristy, taking photos back then had a certain charm, it required a special preparation and procedure! Totally different than today!

Hi Sylvanako, I have been catching up with this thread, I had to go all the way back to to the antique shop story! Your pictures are, as always, works of art and I feel a gift to us all :<3:
Congratulations on getting the Sylvanian Kitchen, it looks gorgeous and I'm sure it was lots of fun to set up. And how cute was Grandpa Babblebrook as a baby!
Can't wait to see what you do next
Hi Livvy, I am happy you had the chance to catch up! It was great fun setting these scenes up and yes I am preparing a new story or rather a recreation of a favourite story , stay tuned!
